If you dig deep enough, and depending on the person or group maybe not that deep at all, you can find what helps fuel their creativity. Musician or artist, writer or comedian, the things that inspire are as nuanced as the day is long… Or not that at all. Drugs seems to be the inspirations of choice, and for any number of reasons that’s not on the ol’radar. (Though if my future wife is a fan of the wine or light recreational stuff like that, I’ll partake; but that’s for another post that yeah, won’t actually be posted!)
Anyway, part of the TAIM brain-trust finds driving to be quite helpful, though often aggravating as well. Since sometimes three figures go into the daily commute here and there, it helps to have the right music and mindset. Now if you’re going 55 on 295 like the Hyundai with the NY tags was doing earlier, in the hammer lane no less, that’s going to somewhat dampen one’s imagination. (Granted, the speed limit IS 55 but seriously, who does that?!)
Another example is occurring right now. The windowsill is soaked and the trusty Dell is a bit spotty with little droplets of rain; but the window is open, wind blowing lazily inside, and rain scented night air filling the room. Ironically the episode being worked on now involves a nice ‘sunny day’ with 70-ish degree temps in SoCal. (That’s Southern California in case you didn’t ask and didn’t care.)
The point is, simplicity is sometimes a beautiful thing. Like many things in life, the more we complicate them the more they like, get complicated. Now it helps that these episodes almost write themselves; however the point is clear, driving a lot and rain are good for creativity… There’s no doubt other things as well, but the laptop is really getting wet now as you might have guessed!
